Meet the Aprilia RSV4 X-GP: a €90,000 MotoGP Race Replica

If your garage is desperately lacking a little MotoGP style and performance, Aprilia has you covered. The Noale factory has just unwrapped the extremely limited and blisteringly expensive RSV4 X-GP—the closest thing to the Aprilia RS-GP race bike that Joe Public can buy.

The Aprilia RSV4 X-GP celebrates the ten-year anniversary of the RS-GP’s debut in MotoGP. It’s the fifth limited edition ‘X’ model from the marque, and by far the wildest.

Where some brands are content to wrap a bike in new graphics, push up its price, and call it a ‘special edition,’ Aprilia has truly gone to town on the RSV4 X-GP. Thanks to substantial tuning by Aprilia’s racing department, its 1,099 cc V-four engine makes 238 hp—18 hp more than a stock RSV4—and 131 Nm of peak torque. Upgrades include an increased compression ratio, a Sprint Filter air filter, race-spec airbox intakes, and a dry clutch from STM.

SC-Project supplies the exhaust system—a titanium twin-pipe setup with a similar muffler placement to the RS-GP. The bike also gets an Aprilia Racing APX ECU, which packs an inordinate amount of adjustable parameters and data acquisition tools. It even comes with a Yashi laptop, with everything you need to manage the ECU pre-installed.

As a true race replica, the Aprilia RSV4 X-GP is stuffed to the gills with aerodynamic features. The familiar one-piece front spoiler is just the start—out back, the RSV4 X-GP wears both tail and ‘leg’ wings, derived from the RS-GP. Together with ridges along the sides of the fairing and a scoop below the swingarm pivot, the package adds aerodynamic load when braking and cornering.

Taking the concept a step further, Aprilia has also ditched the RSV4’s usual tail section for a new carbon fiber seat support, again derived from their MotoGP contender. Built by Pan Compositi and designed to augment the other aero bits, it uses a special carbon layering technique that shaves weight and adds stiffness.

PAN Compositi also built the RSV4 X-GP’s fairings. The design decreases air pressure between the side of the fairing and the ground when the bike is leaned over, effectively creating downforce that pushes the bike towards the ground.

All of the bodywork is wrapped in a striking Aprilia Racing livery that closely replicates the RS-GP, which is, in our humble opinion, the best-looking bike on the grid.

Beneath the bodywork lies a chassis with a lust-worthy spec sheet. The bike’s double cradle aluminium frame is hooked up to Öhlins suspension, with magnesium Marchesini rims, Pirelli race slicks, and Brembo brakes rounding out the package. You also get carbon fiber fenders, oversized WSBK-spec water and oil coolers, a titanium rear sprocket, and a lightened PBR front sprocket.

The adjustable footpegs, clutch lever, gas cap, and crankcase and front brake lever protectors are from Spider, while the race-spec handlebar switch cluster is from Jetprime. The cockpit wears a billet aluminum top yoke bearing each bike’s number in the series.

Aprilia is only making 30 units of the RSV4 X-GP, at the not-so-modest price of €90,000 [about $105,494], excluding taxes. Your bike comes with tire warmers, titanium paddock stands, a floor mat, and a bike cover, and you have the option of picking it up from Aprilia Racing in Noale.
