Rynox Apex Evo jacket review – Introduction

The Rynox Apex Evo is positioned as the brand’s most focused supersport-style riding jacket yet. At first glance, it looks and feels premium with Invista Cordura fabric, stretchable panels all around, elbow and shoulder sliders, and loud Rynox branding on the chest area. As soon as I tried it on, it was the snuggest fit I have experienced. The jacket eliminates the use of velcro adjusters on the arms, giving a precise and secure fit, and while tucking down, you do not feel the jacket forming a big bulge at the front of the stomach. The only adjustment for fit is at the waist area, which I did not even need to use, as it was fitting perfectly right out of the box.

The jacket fits great as is for slim folks.

The jacket is CE Class AA certified and comes with a full suite of Level 2 protectors. This includes armour at the shoulders, elbows, back and chest. This is something that is rare to see, even in more premium jackets. The shoulder, back and elbow areas get RHEON impact protectors, while the chest protectors are from CERROS. The snug fit of the jacket keeps the protectors perfectly in place when you hit bad patches of roads or encounter a lot of windblast. If you have a large or muscular frame, the movement is likely to feel slightly restricted in the elbow area.

Even though this jacket is meant for more sporty riding, I have used it while riding various motorcycles and have always been comfortable throughout the ride. This is also thanks to the material used in the neck area, which feels soft and doesn’t scratch the skin. While the experience is great while riding, the only issue that occurs is when putting the elbow armour back in place after getting the jacket washed. This is because of the snug fit, and the fact that I am using a size S (small) jacket, so it is even more difficult to access the elbow area.

Rynox Apex Evo jacket elbow slider

Elbow slider is a unique addition on an Indian jacket.

The elbow and shoulder sliders might look like overkill on a road-riding jacket, but they are designed to glide across the tarmac instead of catching on to the road in case of a crash. This should ultimately help in reducing injuries. The elbow sliders attach onto the jacket with velcro, so they can be adjusted according to a rider’s liking or removed and kept aside. Additionally, it also gets two external and one internal pocket, which is practical for essentials on the go.

Rynox Apex Evo jacket pocket

Most phones will fit comfortably in the pockets.

Overall, this jacket is great for riders with a slim frame, and where it truly shines is in value. Priced at Rs 15,750, it is on the expensive side, especially for an Indian jacket, but it is built with premium materials, gets all armour as standard, and it offers a comfortable, snug fit. The Apex Evo delivers a good combination of safety, sportiness and everyday usability, making it a good choice for riders who want serious protection while also being practical for everyday use.
