For those who love to laugh, a trio of beloved ’90s comedies are receiving special 4K Ultra HD reissues this week, with one of them also including a new re-edit that perhaps does a better job of capturing the movie’s spirit. Dirty Work (including “The Dirtier Cut”), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Billy Madison, and are available for purchasing beginning Tuesday, July 29th.
Mostly notably is the new reissue of Dirty Work, which includes both the original cut of the 1998 Norm Macdonald cult classic, as well as the recently produced “Dirtier Cut.” The “Dirtier Cut” features seven minutes of footage originally cut from the movie to achieve a PG-13 rating, along with alternate takes lovingly restored from the original camera negatives. The release also contains a two-hour assembly cut of the movie, sourced from video, and an extended alternate ending. Order here.
Also up for grabs are new 4K Ultra HD remasters of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Billy Madison. The former stars Jim Carrey in what was arguably his breakout role — the gleefully silly 1994 mystery comedy featured the one-time In Living Color star alongside Courteney Cox and Tone Loc. Speaking of breakout roles, 1995’s Billy Madison was Adam Sandler’s first time as the lead of a studio comedy (the dawn of the Happy Madison era, followed immediately by 1996’s Happy Gilmore), with Sandler launching the platonic ideal of his grown manchild persona on the big screen. Order Ace Ventura: Pet Detective here, and Billy Madison here.
